Jairuth says, ‘Lord, if that is so, as I have already convinced myself quite seriously on several occasions, then in the ground of the ground I shall in the end give up all wine growing and abolish its use entirely in my house. For according to Your assertion, which I find very true and good, right love can also be permanently enlivened through right words, while evil must remain deep in the background. If so, I shall set all wine growing aside at once and bind myself never to drink any earthly wine again after this heavenly wine! What do You say to this resolution of mine?’
I say, ‘I can neither praise nor blame it. Do what seems best to you! If it serves your soul well, do everything according to your better judgment. Besides, you can have all good things from Me if that is what you seek, because you are a very strict and upright man in what is good, and I have promised it to you.’
Jairuth says, ‘Lord, then remain with me together with Your followers, or at least leave me one or two of these young men of Yours, so that they may instruct me in right love and wisdom!’
I say, ‘For the time being I cannot comply with your good wish and remain with My followers, since I still have very much to do in this world. But I will indeed leave you two of these young men, whom you may choose for yourself. Yet take good care that neither you nor anyone in your family falls into any sin, for then they would become terrible disciplinarians to you and soon leave your house! For know this: these young men are God’s angels and can behold His face at all times!’
Jairuth says, ‘O Lord, that is something bitter again! For who can guarantee that he will not sin once in a year in thoughts, words and deeds? And to have a pair of disciplinarians beside him from whom nothing can remain hidden—that would be a gift that is not very pleasant! Therefore I would like to withdraw this request too, and let things remain as they are and as they were.’
I say, ‘All is well; as you wish it, so it shall be for you. You are free, and no compulsion shall be imposed on you anywhere; be assured of that.’
Jairuth says, ‘No, these young men, these true angels of God, look far too lovely and dear! It seems impossible to me to commit a sin in their presence; so now, come what may, I am keeping two in any case!’
I say, ‘Very well, then two shall remain with you and visibly dwell in your house as long as they feel at ease there. My friend Jonael will in due course teach you My ways most faithfully. As long as you walk in these ways with your household, they will remain with you, serve you in everything and protect your house from every evil. But if you leave My ways, then they too will leave you and your house.’
Jairuth says, ‘Very well, let it stand! No more wine will be drunk in my house, and with the stock on hand I will pay the Romans the promised ten years’ tribute for the poor of this surrounding area. But the grapes that grow in my gardens I shall dry and eat as a lovely sweet fruit, and sell the surplus! Is that right?’
I say, ‘Perfectly! Whatever you do out of love for Me and for your fellow human beings, who are your brothers, will be well and rightly done!’
After this I immediately call two of the young men, present them to Jairuth, and I said, ‘Do these two suit you?’ Jairuth, transported into all the heavens with delight at the sight of them, says, ‘Lord, if You consider me worthy of this grace, then I am immeasurably content with it down to the deepest depth of my heart. But I feel only too keenly my unworthiness to possess such grace from the heavens. Yet from now on I shall strive exceedingly to become gradually worthier of such grace; and so may Your will be done, which grows ever holier to me!’
But the two young men say, ‘The Lord’s will is our being and life. Wherever it is actively put into practice in everything, we are the most active fellow workers, and we have strength and might in abundance for it. For our power extends beyond all visible creation: the earth is a grain of sand to us, and the sun like a pea in a giant’s hand; all the waters of the earth are not enough to moisten one hair of our head, and before the breath of our mouth the host of stars trembles! But we do not have this strength to boast of it before human weakness, but to serve people according to the Lord’s will. Therefore we can and will serve you too precisely according to the Lord’s will, as long as you recognize, accept and respect it in every deed. But once you have left it, you have also left us, since we are nothing but the personified will of God the Lord! Whoever leaves us, we then leave too. We tell you this here in the Lord’s full presence, whose face we behold at all times, listening to His quiet signs, which call us to a new deed and draw us most powerfully toward it.’
Jairuth then says, ‘You loveliest young men, I understand and grasp very well and clearly that you possess a strength incalculable to us mortals. But I too can do much that perhaps you yourselves cannot, and that is to boast before you of my weakness, in which neither power nor any strength is at home. Yet in this great weakness of mine before you there still also lies a strength by which I can recognize, accept and fulfill the Lord’s will!
‘Certainly not to the same degree as you; but the Lord will surely not burden me with more than I am able to bear. In this respect my weakness is very honorable to me, for it surely deserves special consideration that human beings’ weakness nevertheless in the end does the same will of the Lord as your immeasurable strength and power.
‘And if I have understood the Lord correctly thus far, it might in the end even turn out that the deed arising from the children’s weakness will be dearer to the Lord, and that the strength and deeds of the great and mighty spirits of the heavens will themselves in the end have to let the weakness of this earth’s little children guide them, in order to reach the children’s table! For if the Lord Himself comes to the weak, it seems to me at least that He will make the weak strong!’
The young men say, ‘Yes, yes, that is certainly right and true. So recognize the Lord’s will and act accordingly, and you already have our strength and power within you, which is nothing but the pure will of God the Lord. We ourselves have neither strength nor any power; rather, all our strength and power is nothing but God’s will fulfilled in and through us!’
I say, ‘Now all is well on every side. We have strengthened ourselves, and so, all you dear ones, let us rise from the tables and set out on a path that leads us onward!’ At these words everyone rises, gives thanks and goes outside with Me.
