Nathanael, who acted as leader, as it were, among those who had remained, since he too was recording a Gospel on his own in Greek, which he knew well, without having been specially called by Me to do so—and more comprehensively than all the others who have occupied themselves with it—came to Me as though most deeply frightened and said: ‘Lord! You Almighty One! I too had the vision and saw the most dreadful things, so that my stylus failed me for fear! I beg You in all the fullness of my love for You, eternally Holy One, do tell me whether this will one day happen beyond in full reality as I and many others have now beheld it!’
I say: ‘Be without fear, for you have nothing to fear! Whoever lives and acts as you do will be awakened beyond, as also already on this side, to eternal life; and everyone’s last day will be when he is awakened by Me to eternal life, whether already here or beyond.
‘But let everyone strive to be awakened already here; for whoever is awakened already here while still in the flesh will neither see nor feel nor taste the death of the flesh, and his soul will not be frightened.
‘But woe to these and all later adversaries of My order! Truly, they shall then feel a thousandfold who He was whom they opposed and whom, together with His true confessors, they burdened and covered with every curse!
‘I can (Matt. 11:27) indeed say and do this, for I tell you: all things have been handed over to Me by the Father! But no one knows the Son, who I am, except the Father alone, and likewise no one knows the Father except the Son alone, and after Him the one to whom the Son wishes to reveal it.’
Nathanael says: ‘Accordingly, even we, as Your most faithful disciples, are still far from knowing You, and yet You have already revealed much about Yourself to us and shown us who You are!’
I say: ‘You do indeed know Me insofar as I have revealed and shown Myself to you. But you still lack much; only when you come to know the Father will you also know Me fully, and that will be when I have ascended again from this earth into My heavens! From then on the Father will draw you up to Me, as I now draw you towards the Father; and whoever the Father does not draw will not come to Me, the Son! Truly, I tell you: at that time everyone will have to learn from God Himself who the Son is; and whoever has not been taught by God will not come to the Son and will not have eternal life in Him.
‘But the Son is not harder than the Father; for what the Father’s love does, the Son’s love does also, and just as the Father’s love is the Son, so the Son’s love is also the Father.
‘(Matt. 11:28) But the Son says to you as to all people: come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, (Matt. 11:29) I will refresh you!
‘Take My yoke upon you, learn from Me to carry it, and in doing so behave as I do; for I am gentle and (Matt. 11:30) humble of heart—then you will have rest, and all fear will leave you.
‘But My yoke is gentle, and light is the burden I give you to carry; for I know what you can bear.’
