Learn to Pray Through Inner Feeling

My beloved sons and daughters, heaven does not know words of the kind human beings use. Words are a necessity for you so that you can express your inner feelings and thoughts and communicate with one another. Everything that has been created, whether in heaven or on earth, has its origin in an inner feeling, upon which everything else is built and which in the end, as a rule, results in action.

In this chain, inner feelings—or also emotions—have an importance that cannot be rated highly enough. They are what either give strength to a subsequent action or cause the action to fizzle out with little or no effect. The words used as a kind of connecting link merely serve to carry into the outer world what was previously felt in the inner world. Words, too, have their own character; they can be spoken shallowly and superficially, or they can carry sincerity, warmth, and heartfelt feeling within them. Their energy potential is correspondingly low or high.

In communicating with other people, words are indispensable because you do not—not yet again—possess the gift of making yourselves understood without words. Nor do you have the ability always and immediately to recognize the truthfulness in the words of another person. It is different in all non-material realms. There, deception is impossible; the sincere or insincere intention is evident.

Communication with Me, as you practice it every day in countless prayers, is subject to the same laws. And because I am within you the life that pours itself out eternally—and therefore do not dwell outside you in some distant heaven—I know you, My beloved child, through and through, and therefore far better than you know yourself. If you know this fact and acknowledge that words, whether read or spoken, are only an aid in the conversation between you and Me, then you will also become aware of the far more important—indeed, overriding—significance of the inner feeling that a prayer carries within it, or does not carry.

Everything in My creation is alive, and life is energy. It is the sustaining force that flows unceasingly from Me, the only “perpetual motion machine” in the universe. All processes of life—whatever their kind and wherever within infinity they take place—need energy. The nature of that energy, in its mightiest form as selfless and unconditional love, determines its effect.

Without this love as the foundation of an action, no work can endure in the long term, because the seed of weakening or downfall already lies within it. An action, by contrast, that is born of the desire and effort to fulfill the law of love for God and neighbor carries a great deal of positive energy within it. According to the law of spiritual attraction, this leads to other—that is, positive—effects.

Applied to prayer, this means that the energy a prayer carries within it—the energy the one praying gives it, so to speak—is decisive for what it brings about. And because the sustaining and decisive element of a prayer, a request, or a turning toward Me is the inner feeling, sincere feelings that come from the heart determine whether a resonance is produced or not, or how great or small the response in the spiritual realm is. The words used, on the other hand, have less value, which can even be so low that they leave no trace at all. The blessing of weapons in My name is one example of this.

I want to show you the great importance of the inner feeling in prayer by means of the common prayer of Christians that I gave you as Jesus: the Lord’s Prayer.

The writings you call the “Old Testament” come from a time when people had very simple and in part false ideas about God. Their content reflects this; people were not yet able, or were scarcely able, to grasp anything of My true nature, which is love. And that is why I came into the world in Jesus of Nazareth: to correct the image, to place love at the center by teaching it and living it before people, and to redeem human beings from the fate they had brought upon themselves.

Yet putting My teaching into practice could only be the beginning of a very difficult process that is far from complete, as a look at what is happening in your world shows you. Along with much else that I gave in the form of parables, the Lord’s Prayer was a kind of guideline. It offered a way to approach Me from another perspective by seeing the Father in Me—and not the stern judge. And a father who cares for his children at the same time embodies love.

Today many of My children already know that I am far more than merely their Father, that I am everything—something that the great majority still cannot truly grasp. Not yet.

The energy that vibrates within the Lord’s Prayer is enormous. The reason for this is not only that I Myself brought this prayer to My human children, but also that—when rightly taken inward—it releases energies of light in the one praying, which flow from within that person toward Me and, in return, fill that person from My side with strength and trust. In such a case there has been a reciprocal effect upon the one praying, triggered by that person. Love, the fundamental vibration of creation, has flowed more strongly.

The Lord’s Prayer has become the common prayer of Christians. The fact that through many translations and also changes it no longer corresponds to the original does not fundamentally diminish its value; for its true value is always opened to the one who puts the heart into the words, lays bare what is within, and joins with Me in feeling and thought: lovingly, like a child, and full of trust.

Seen in this way, it is always “sold short” when it is merely recited, and the words are therefore not given life; and this applies in principle to every dialogue with Me, for every prayer is—or at least should be—a dialogue with Me. That the Lord’s Prayer nevertheless possesses great power as a prayer also has to do with the fact that throughout the many centuries it has been prayed from the heart by countless people, and the words have thereby become, as it were, “charged.” This energy alone already acts upon the one praying and likewise upon those for whom prayer is offered; how much more can and will this be the case when that person speaks the words with the feeling that My love may join ever more strongly with his or her love …!

It therefore makes no difference whether you pray “Father of ours” or “Our Father.” If in doing so you acknowledge Me as the source of your true, your spiritual life, and at the same time know that I am love, this inner attitude alone is of great—indeed decisive—importance; especially when you draw from it the understanding that in truth you are children of the heavens who have come to earth only for a comparatively short time.

If My name is holy to you, then you associate it with the idea of something perfect, absolute. Then I am wholeness and healing in everyone and for all; then you too, as spiritual beings, are whole—but not holy—because I create nothing imperfect or defective.

With Your kingdom come you express the desire that fullness, peace, and love become reality among you in the earthly realm. Yet you also know that this cannot and will not happen by itself, but must not only be asked for by each individual; it must be lived in that person’s surroundings and with that person’s possibilities. All the help you need for this is given to you by Me in overflowing measure.

Your will be done is a formulation that expresses not only the hope but also the request that human willing may not rule, but My will! My beloved, My will shall be fulfilled in every case, because there is no other power equal to Mine or capable of resisting it forever! For through the law of cause and effect everyone will find the way back to Me. Time plays no role in this. If you trust Me because you love Me, then at this point in the Lord’s Prayer feel within yourselves: Your will be done in me! And let yourselves fall into the infinite security that comes to the one who is serious about these words; that person is then subject to the principle of sowing and reaping to a far lesser degree, because I—love—transform and erase much.

On earth as it is in heaven expresses your belief that I am omnipresent and that there is no place and no moment that is “neutral,” even if the world before your eyes seems otherwise and countless people believe I have forgotten them and that My dwelling place is somewhere in infinity. I am within you and with you, immediately and at all times. That My hand, which guides you justly, is not recognized is due to human ignorance.

When, in the request give us today our daily bread, you think not only of the needs of your body but in equal or greater measure of the daily bread for your soul, then try to feel this inwardly. And I promise you: Every request for spiritual growth will be heard “as quickly as possible.”

The words and forgive us our debts cannot be separated from the promise that follows: as we also forgive our debtors. Yet precisely this addition is far too often and far too quickly merely spoken! And it is the decisive criterion for whether you, too, can be forgiven. You cannot truly and seriously believe that I, all-knowing justice, do not know the connections that bind people karmically to one another. Everyone who, having recognized his wrongdoing, asks forgiveness will receive forgiveness, provided he too is willing to forgive those indebted to him. Any other conduct on My part would be unjust and is expected only by those who avoid the often painful process of self-knowledge.

For many centuries humanity prayed and lead us not into temptation, although it was clear to many that I could not have said such a thing. And yet it was “recited,” which makes it easy to see how quickly and how thoroughly a prayer can remain on the surface. You can judge for yourselves the low “spiritual value” of this wording, which expresses an inability to think responsibly for oneself. If instead the request rises from within you, and guide us in temptation, then—joined with a heartfelt inner feeling—it expresses the desire that I be the One who guides you through your day and, because this is your will, makes you aware of the seductions and temptations of the forces of darkness and stands by you. Can you really believe that I would not hear such a request?

In the words and deliver us from evil, or also from what is evil, there vibrates the longing to become free of everything burdensome, of everything that weighs upon the soul and, as a consequence, also makes life difficult for the human being. Since there is no effect without a cause, an honest request that arises from inner feeling for deliverance from evil or from what is evil will always also be joined with a readiness to look at what the person can contribute to freeing himself from what oppresses, hinders, or binds him. Such a request too, like everything that comes from a sincere heart, always meets My open ears.

When you close the Lord’s Prayer with the words, for Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever, be aware that with them you acknowledge My will and at the same time describe your own future, for there too is your eternal home; there your original spiritual strength will grow in you again; and there one day you will live again with Me and all your brothers and sisters forever in the glory that is your inheritance and waits for you to take possession of it. You know the way there: it is the way of love lived in practice!

I have used the Lord’s Prayer as an example for My instruction because—at least among Christians—it is generally known. But what I have said applies to every prayer that you speak aloud or silently. Through a prayer you establish a connection between Me and you, and in this way you bridge a “distance” that in reality does not exist at all.

With every prayer an energetic pathway arises between the human sender and Me, the divine receiver. How powerful it is and what effect it produces depends on the sender: on whether you give the words—only thought or also spoken—a heartfelt inner feeling, or whether the words are more or less like empty shells that are not filled, or only minimally filled, with the power of love.

Alongside a childlike, trusting attitude, another factor is decisive. You know that wherever your attention and your interests go, fields of energy build up, and these in turn attract what is of like kind. You certainly know this from negative experiences that have come upon you or fallen back upon you whenever, over a longer period, you have cultivated anxious thoughts or given space in many ways to unpleasant inner feelings.

Your inner life builds its own home. It can be joyful and confident, nourished by the knowledge that I, your heavenly Father, care for you and give you every possibility to shape your earthly existence with a minimum of hardship and unpleasantness, provided you allow it, and provided no necessary learning processes stand in the way; and even in those situations I Myself am the One who continually comes toward you with My help.

But your condition can also be less joyful; and it always is when positive and constructive forces are lacking in you because you have spent too long and too intensely in the lowlands of your superficial and loveless inner feelings and thoughts.

Applied to your prayers, this means: The more often you succeed in keeping your dialogue with Me on the level of heartfelt inner feeling, the brighter it becomes around you, the more radiant your aura becomes, and the stronger My protection can become, because it grows increasingly impenetrable to all who want to harm you and to everything that wants to hold you back or pull you down. You are then, as you yourselves often call it, in a “different vibration,” which keeps building more and more strongly.

You do not feel this safety and security when your prayers consist only of strings of memorized words that lack life! Nor do you perceive it when the words are recited rapidly one after another, leaving no time to let what gives them their essence rise from the heart. A simple “Father, I love You” and even an awkwardly worded request in which your desire for My closeness vibrates have incomparably farther-reaching and more positive effects than any “prayer from the head.”

My beloved sons and daughters, turn My words over within yourselves. They contain a key to My heart, and consciously entering My heart in turn brings with it the effects for which your soul longs so deeply.
