The Hardest Request: Your Will Be Done
“Your will be done!” I gladly used to say,
when hardship, sorrow, and care were far away.
Then hours came, anxious and hard to bear,
when, Lord, the words would scarcely pass my lips in prayer.
When the heart is bleeding, the soul in tears,
when brightest day like darkest night appears,
then, then it is unspeakably hard
to say: “Your will be done, O Lord!”
Then I would like to cry: “Lord, must it be?
Not this, not this, O Father, no — not me!”
And the heart resists the path it has to take,
it cannot understand the Almighty’s way,
and in all its pain and anguish it may cry:
“My God, my God, can this be love?”
And again and again: O Father, forgive,
forgive my doubts; You love me still.
Even if my heart is consumed by pain and grief,
Your way must nevertheless be the right one.
Your will is done even if I do not want it,
yet this knowledge alone does not quiet my heart.
Lord, teach me to cry from the depths of my heart,
so that I speak with my heart, not only with my mouth:
“Your will be done! — Not as I will!”
Only then will it gradually grow quiet within me.
Lord, turn my heart completely away from the world,
and guide me as it pleases You.
Though the paths be rough and full of thorns,
I know You nevertheless guide me well.
Let this be my daily request:
That I desire nothing more than You alone, Lord.
Your will be done when the sun is smiling,
Your will be done in the night of sorrow,
Your will be done, now and forever,
so take my heart and hands and guide me!
Even if I do not see the goal of Your ways,
You still guide me well, Lord: YOUR WILL BE DONE.
The Father’s answer to this poem:
Divine Revelation
My beloved, one of your greatest problems, from which many others in turn arise, is this: You always see yourselves only as human beings, as structures of flesh and blood. You do know that you have a soul, that your spiritual being is immortal and after the years of your earthly time leaves matter again in order to continue living in other worlds, but you are not conscious of this. There is an enormous difference between “knowing about something” and “consciously living” with that knowledge.
And because you do not practice this distinction, in many cases you have become playthings of dark forces, which again and again unsettle and cause even those who believe in Me and love Me to doubt Me.
The forces of darkness have succeeded in changing My simple teaching of love in such a way that at bottom it no longer makes sense; for through the gradual changes made over the centuries, nothing is logical anymore. Countless people have noticed this — insofar as they had the courage and took the time to think about it — but because fear was used at the same time, hardly anyone made the effort or found the courage to think and decide independently and on his own responsibility. All Christian religions are affected to a greater or lesser extent by the consequences of this satanic influence.
You know that at present you live as a soul in a human body. That sounds somewhat different, and it is different, from saying: I am a human being with a soul. First and foremost you are children of My love, and I did not create you as human beings but as spiritual beings, endowed with a fullness, glory, and power that surpass your understanding.
This spirit being decided — the reasons differ for each person — to live for a time on earth as a human being. When this earthly time has run its course, you leave the human covering that is no longer needed and return to subtle realms. Yet these are not your true home; they are only an intermediate station on your journey to your original and eternal home with Me, the heavens.
All My love belongs to what I created; therefore also to you, and you, and you. That is why I do everything possible and give each person every help he needs to develop again to the point where reunion with Me is possible. The “distance” between Me and you, however — even though I live within you — is so great that we cannot immediately come together when you leave the earth again. Here the law applies that like attracts like and unlike repels unlike.
Changes and transformations are therefore necessary, which you can call learning processes. You are, so to speak, on a journey that carries you forward step by step from where you presently are until you are once again in eternity and bliss. Or expressed in another image: You are like students continually learning something in order in this way to come nearer to the desired goal.
I know each one. I know him through and through, far better than he knows himself. Is that surprising when I am the life within you? Therefore I know what each person still lacks. And, My beloved, I have every possibility and I am wisdom, while love stands above everything. It is therefore not only possible for Me; it is My chief concern to give every child all possible help so that as soon as possible it may complete its journey, to My joy and its own. You too would act no differently as father and mother.
When a spirit being decides to incarnate, it does so by its own decision, for no one is forced into an incarnation. I am freedom! Whoever in the beyond recognizes that through an incarnation he has the possibility of developing far more quickly than where he is presently staying will make use of that possibility, provided the conditions for it exist on earth. This in turn depends on various factors.
At present very many souls are waiting for the chance to incarnate because they sense or already know that this will soon no longer be as easy as it was in the past. The circumstances that will then prevail on earth will make an incarnation more difficult or make it impossible for a period whose duration cannot yet be foreseen.
To incarnate simply because, for example, lower cravings and desires move a soul to live them out on earth is not a good decision. But every soul is free in this point too and does not have to follow the advice of its guardian angel, who has an overview of what may come upon the soul.
If it follows this advice, however, the course is well set. This includes, among other things, the family into which it incarnates and with whose members under certain circumstances it has long been connected in one way or another. In an incarnation prepared in this way, the soul knows approximately what awaits it. It is its own wish, because it wants to learn and thereby mature.
On entering matter, the soul itself has not forgotten everything, but the human being is kept from knowing his past and what led his soul to incarnate. This is good, for he is meant to begin his new path through life without being burdened by prior knowledge. Yet many questions often arise for him, even for those who believe in Me and believe that I make no mistake.
According to the principle that like is drawn to like, during the course of his life the human being is now confronted with — that is, there comes toward him — what needs to be worked on, learned, perhaps endured or worked off. For his soul is no longer “brand new”; it has either already undergone incarnations or, during its descent from the heavens through the various soul realms as far as earth, it has taken into its soul-body quite a few things that require transformation.
Almost always other people from earlier times are also involved, people with whom the soul either got along well and whom it perhaps even loved. But naturally it will also meet those whom it wronged, with whom there were quarrels, perhaps even hostilities, and much more. The possibilities are countless. All these are burdens that must be “cleared out of the world” so that the soul can grow and mature and increase in light and radiance.
Much that needs to be recognized or borne will meet the human being during the course of his life. For everything to confront him would not correspond to My love and grace, because no human being could bear it.

Before I decided to incarnate in Jesus of Nazareth, the greater part of humanity at that time had developed thoroughly selfish conduct or had not yet grown beyond the developmental stage of self-centeredness at all. In response to a wrong or an alleged wrong suffered, people generally knew only one answer: to strike back in the same or a similar way. In this way they loaded guilt upon guilt upon themselves. The great majority were farther than ever from the purification of their souls as a prerequisite for ascending again into realms of light.
The Ten Commandments I transmitted through Moses were not obeyed by the great majority.
The highest-vibrating energy, selfless love, is the instrument capable of transforming everything of lower vibration. But it must be lived! Therefore I came into the world, taught it, and lived it before you to My bitter end. But not only that: I lowered My Christ-energy into every soul and every human being. It now serves everyone as an additional source of power — in addition to My eternal presence in everything — and since then ensures with absolute precision that all who for whatever reason left the heavens will find their way home again. For I do not lose what I once created!
With this, the Christ-energy, which has its place near the heart of each person, became one — the — key that helps you deal in the right way with the “old burdens” brought into this life. It is the guarantee that much that comes upon you as a learning process or as necessary working off of burdens is easier to bear. But not only that: beyond My loving, brotherly support, it can “neutralize” or even dissolve much in advance so that it never enters your life at all. In such a case, however, conditions must be present that go far beyond a quickly spoken prayer or a superficial “I’m sorry, Lord.”
You often speak of a “school of life” when questions of your existence are involved. Most of the time you use this term too quickly, without reflecting on its deep meaning and truth. In school you learn something that is new to you, something you do not yet master. If necessary, the material or assignment is presented to you as often as needed until you finally begin to deal seriously with the subject.
Life does no differently. Step by step it builds up and expands your capacity to love. In doing so it makes use of the abilities you have already acquired, your knowledge, and your greater or lesser readiness to place the next building block of learning upon those already present. Thus something new is constantly added and presented to you, through your neighbor and through the circumstances in which you live. The great invisible director of your life is the principle that nothing remains forever as it is because everything is continual development. And this development has a goal: the reunion of all with Me!
Can you recognize My love in this? A love so great that I Myself came into the world and gave My life for you? A love ready to share with you every difficulty and every learning process, all your aversions, your displeasure, everything disagreeable and unattractive, by easing your worries and pains or under certain circumstances even taking them from you when you turn toward it? Is there anything greater or more beautiful than the unassailable will of your Creator, your heavenly Father, who is able to draw everyone back to His heart?
If this is also your desire, what then speaks against letting the words rise inwardly and with full conviction: “Your will be done in me”? And in the depths of your soul this is your desire, My beloved child! For I have planted this longing indelibly within you.
The poem you mentioned says:
“Then I would like to cry: ‘Lord, must it be?
Not this, not this, O Father, no!’”
Do you now know the answer, My beloved child?
If, therefore, something unpleasant comes toward you, something “pinches” you, something does not fit your ideas or plans because it calls you to look more closely, reconsider your conduct at this point and perhaps change it, this is not only permitted by Me but intended. It is meant to help you develop, mature, and refine your soul, which I want soon to embrace again.
If you cannot — cannot yet — recognize My love in this, but wish to, then ask Me to help you in this process. Be certain that you will receive this help.

P.S.: You consider too little that this earthly life is a school and that tasks must be fulfilled in this school. Knowing these connections is not enough; the knowledge also belongs in daily life.
