A Christian Does Not Pay Homage to the Spirit of the Age

Divine Revelation

My beloved brothers and sisters, when about two thousand years ago I proclaimed My teaching to the Jewish people, I had to adapt Myself to the consciousness of the people, My listeners. It is no different today. To conclude from this that the Spirit of God has nothing more to say to human beings than what He has revealed up to now is a disastrous misconception to which those succumb who believe that, with their narrow human view, they can judge the unlimited possibilities of the eternal, timeless Spirit.

Knowledge, insights, and wisdom in an abundance beyond imagining already lie within every soul and every human being and will gradually open themselves to them if they walk the path of inner Christianity, the path of love lived out. The designation “inner” already points to the fact that there is also an outer Christianity, comparable to passive membership in an association.

Using “faith” as an example, it is easy to work out where the differences lie; and in this way everyone can recognize for himself—if he wishes—whether he seriously strives for, or is already shaping, a relationship with Me, a life with Me. “I believe in God” is a statement, often no more than a phrase, used everywhere and again and again throughout the world. It is and remains an empty shell of words if the consequence contained in this statement does not follow in personal conduct.

Faith in Me also includes acknowledging My will, even though the human being very often disagrees with what life places before him and what he believes he recognizes as My will. Nevertheless, the two are inseparably connected. Countless times every day throughout the world the LORD’S PRAYER is prayed, and with it “Your will be done,” in the vast majority of cases without knowing or paying attention to the deep meaning of these words. Who gives thought to what he is saying there?

The human being asks Me that My will may be done. Truly, I tell you, My will is done in any case, from eternity and throughout eternity, for nothing stands above My will. It is possible, however, through unlawful conduct in self-will, to circumvent My will for a short time; but even such conduct does not stand outside My divine lawfulness. It is and remains embedded in My will. It merely sets in motion the law of cause and effect, which comes from My love and is subject to My will.

So when you pray, “Your will be done,” connect with it for once an idea that is formulated only a little differently but has much contained within it. Give it the meaning, indeed express with it the wish: “Your will be done in me.” And then feel within yourselves what inner feelings arise in you, provided your request, your wish directed to Me, comes from a heart of surrender and corresponds to a deep love. What do you feel? Joy that you have placed your life into My hands without ifs or buts? Do you already sense the freedom that awaits you? Is the knowledge already spreading within you that now everything can only turn out well? Or do fears arise in you about what may now happen? What I may take from you or refuse you in the future? What paths I may send you on that perhaps run counter to your own ideas?

This small exercise in thought alone, consisting of the words “faith” and “will,” can tell you quite a bit about yourselves. It can tell you whether you are already living with the inner Christ or still prefer an outer Christianity. Or perhaps you are just beginning to discover My love within you, to draw closer to it, and to find your way more and more into our relationship of love.

Whoever does not merely formulate with his lips the request from the LORD’S PRAYER just mentioned, but, as suggested above, speaks it aloud or silently with his heart and above all feels it in this way, I take by the hand; on the ship of his life I take command as pilot. And I tell you—as a helpful repetition for one person or another—that divine love has thereby come “on board”! Could there be anything more desirable and worth striving for to a Christian than the fact that his life is no longer exposed to the unpredictable adversities of fate because I—the great One who sets the points—will have the say from now on?

I then make sure that you come onto the track that takes you in the direction I have intended for you. It is the same direction in which your soul also wants to travel, a soul that most likely has long been engaged in a struggle with its human self; that feels unhappy and unfree in the process, for it carries within itself the longing to develop more and more toward the light.

Your fears that I will take something from you that you do not voluntarily give Me are completely unfounded, for the free will of the human being is sacred to Me under all circumstances. Whatever you still wish to keep because your human self has become so accustomed to it—even though it already knows that someday it will have to let it go—I will also leave with you. But I will help you, through an inner change, gradually to set different priorities in your life. And what you then receive as a “replacement” is incomparably more valuable than what, in your lack of understanding, you still wanted to hold onto. This is how love works within you.

Allowing My will to be done in you ultimately comes down to the surrender of which I have so often spoken. Once you have given Me your yes, much is prepared in the spiritual realm; this too is why I call Myself the “great One who sets the points.” As the divine brother at your side, I can and will then gradually lead you—according to your ability, your will, and the circumstances in which you live—toward the tasks that still have to be mastered. You need not fear that you will miss the right moment or fail to recognize what is to be done. Fanaticism or frantic outward searching in order now to follow your declared willingness with action as quickly as possible would be completely out of place. It would only harm you and cause you to remain stuck in place, if not set you back.

I have many possibilities. For example, I call you inwardly if this is already possible for Me because of your capacity for surrender and your love. But in every case I reach you! Even if it is through people, impulses of daily life, so-called “coincidences,” and much more. The question, then, is not whether I call you, but whether you allow yourselves to be called. That is your part; it is the hand that reaches out toward Me with a voluntary yes.

*

Whoever comes more and more into agreement with the words “Your will be done in me” will ultimately arrive at the firm conviction that everything that happens in his life is good and right. The process leading to this can indeed be long, but for a Christian in whom insight and wisdom have begun to open, this is no longer a fundamental question. It does, however, presuppose that he has not merely accumulated knowledge, but that this knowledge is firmly anchored within him and has thus become part of his close and loving relationship with Me.

It takes a considerable measure of trust for a person to be able to say: “Everything that comes from the hand of my Father is good for me.” Yet this example too can be used, with the logic of the heart I teach you, to explore how true this statement is and whether it can shed light on the extent to which the individual has already internalized My word of revelation, given for so long.

A few sentences as a reminder: The human being consists of spirit, soul, and body. The spirit is the eternal, indestructible, imperishable life from God within him. That is how he was created, and that is how he will one day be again. The soul, with its various coverings, wrapped itself around the pure spirit upon leaving the heavenly realms and appears as an energy body filled with more or less light. At birth the soul enters the human being and leaves him again at so-called “death.” According to the law of attraction, it then enters those subtle realms that correspond to its own condition. There learning and the expansion of its consciousness proceed in a similar way to what happened on earth or should have been sought on earth. If the soul wishes to “accelerate” its learning process, it has the possibility of incarnating again: a human being is born who carries within himself a—his—soul, within which the eternal spirit—the childship of God—continues to live. If the human being strives for a life in the spirit of love for God and neighbor, his soul becomes more filled with light, its structures become finer and purer, and when it leaves the earth again it enters bright, high-vibrating realms from which further development all the way to re-entry into the heavens is possible without another incarnation being necessary.

My endeavor, as Jesus Christ the love within the Father, is to lead every soul—whether it has fallen or gone forth of its own free will—back to the eternal home, and not at some indefinite time but, if possible, as quickly as possible. It is true that in the spiritual realm there is no time in your sense, but I want to spare every soul and every human being an often long path, not infrequently a path of suffering. For I love everyone. I love everyone without exception, with the same brotherly intimacy, warmth of heart, and tenderness.

The earth is the school souls attend in order to learn there. What is to be learned? All the human weaknesses and shortcomings that become conscious to a person in the course of a lifetime are to be transformed into steadfastness and strengths in the spirit of love. If this learning process is undertaken voluntarily, perhaps even joyfully, all the forces of heaven stand beside the human being. If, by contrast, the learning tasks are not recognized or are consciously ignored, then the law of cause and effect comes into play—not to annoy or even chastise the person, but to move him to reconsider and change his behavior.

Whoever knows these connections also knows that his earthly incarnation is only an “interlude,” that his human shell is only a form of appearance limited in time whose sole task is to provide the soul—the more important part—with a temporary dwelling. For the soul is what remains. Its condition, its development, determine its future life in the beyond as soon as the body has been laid aside.

The goal of every human being should therefore be to conduct himself in such a way that his soul gradually frees itself from its shadows, so that with every task successfully mastered in accordance with the commandment of love for God and neighbor it vibrates at a higher level. In this way it gains strength and radiance and develops step by step the divine qualities placed within it, from order all the way to mercy.

Everything that comes to a person in the course of a lifetime consists of learning tasks intended for the welfare of his soul and, when he recognizes and accepts them, often also for the welfare of the human being. Without these learning tasks—whether they entered a person’s life through the law of cause and effect or were accepted by him in the realization that they represent help from the spiritual realm—progress in the sense of gradual perfection is not possible.

Use the logic of your heart, My beloved brothers and sisters: If you take as your basis that divine omnipotence makes no mistake, and that in its love it has first and foremost the development of the soul in view—how, then, could anything ever come to a human being that was not good and right for him? People without spiritual knowledge, without knowledge of these connections, do not understand their lives; not infrequently they accuse God for what happens to them.

But what about those who know these things? Knowledge alone is not enough to believe in a gracious and benevolent Father and trust Him unconditionally. More is required. What is needed is the internalization—which is more than merely believing—that there is a flawless divine guidance whose love applies to you, and you, and you, to everyone without any restriction whatsoever.

Can you already recognize yourself as a spiritual being who is only a guest on earth? From this perspective can you already assess the value of what comes to you, to your human self? If you succeed in this, if you see yourself first and foremost as an immortal being, as a creature loved by God, then you will also be able to follow what I have just brought close to you. Then you too will be able to say, “Everything is good,” because it serves to strengthen and develop your true being, even if some practice may still be needed before this is deeply anchored within you. I help you with it if you ask Me.

If, despite spiritual knowledge, you cannot yet accept it in this way, then what has been said offers you an opportunity for self-knowledge. But if, in free decision, you would like to make it part of your inner feeling and thinking, then come to Me as well. Then we will “work” together on this task.

*

Part of the development of soul and human being is also that those who follow Me in deed—and not only in word—grow into independent thinking and acting; that in personal responsibility they can recognize and learn to decide whether something corresponds to My eternal laws or not.

It has always been customary—because it is easier—to turn to spiritual or political authorities and leaders in order to obtain certainty on controversial questions. In doing so, the correctness or validity of their answers or arguments is measured not by whether they arise from a consciousness that has grown through following Me in My Spirit, but by their intellect, their studies, their titles, their worldly sophistication, their speaking ability. Not infrequently, however, the basis of your leaders’ thinking is adaptation to the spirit of the age or to the behavior of others, thereby accommodating those whose approval they depend upon. Or they insist on dogmas, doctrines, and principles they are unwilling to question, out of fear that their structures of power would begin to crumble. Which is happening anyway.

But all too quickly people also consider seeking an answer from the spiritual world—from God, Jesus Christ, angels, and, in the most questionable case, from so-called masters. Heaven gives all who strive honestly every help toward insight, which does not mean that the one asking immediately receives a clear answer such as: “Do this or that, or leave it alone,” or “This is right and that is wrong.”

Why this is so is obvious to anyone who, in personal responsibility, strives for his inner development. On the one hand, whoever too quickly and uncritically leaves decisions to others runs the risk of being led in a direction incompatible with divine laws; yet it is scarcely questioned because neither the one asking nor the one answering knows My laws or bases his decisions upon them. On the other hand, one’s own struggle, one’s effort to find answers inwardly with My help, is often brought to an end too quickly. This does not mean that there should be no mutual exchange; that help may not be requested from one’s neighbor; or that a direct word from the Spirit may not sometimes be possible or appropriate.

Whoever, by contrast, strives to make the Ten Commandments, the law of love for God and neighbor, and the Sermon on the Mount the standard for his own answers will grow inwardly through wrestling with the corresponding questions, because his vision becomes ever clearer for the many traps darkness has set and into which more and more people are falling because they leave their thinking to others.

For months I have been introducing you to what I call “the logic of the heart.” With it you have been given an instrument that helps you find answers even where they apparently cannot be found because the questions at hand have not yet been treated in this detail and clarity. I emphasize this point so strongly because in the future you will depend more and more, and increasingly often, on using your “God-given reason” together with a heart that sees more deeply.

At present the question of whether people of the same sex should be permitted to marry is creating great waves not only in your country. Should this be supported or not? Is there anything “sinful” about it or not?—if that question is asked at all. Many people would like to know what I have to say about it. And that is why I touch upon this point, although I know that My answer will not fully satisfy them. For they will still be referred to their own inner feeling, thinking, and conduct.

First and fundamentally: It is not within the law of God to judge another human being or condemn him for what he does. But this does not mean, on the other hand, that everything must be regarded as “corresponding to the law of God” merely because no judgment may be passed upon it. I remind you of a revelation that dealt with “seeing and nevertheless loving.” “I,” I said, “see and hear everything, but I condemn nothing. I love unconditionally.”

But does this mean that, for all your love, you cannot or may not distinguish whether such conduct corresponds to My law or not? That you must switch off your reason and accept everything as right and in accordance with My divine laws? By doing so you would open doors and gates to the opposing forces so that, with great subtlety and in the smallest doses, they could bring their ideas among the people. This is what they have been trying to do not only now but for thousands of years. Not without success.

Use the thinking of your heart and reflect: Creation is built upon duality, which means there is a giving and a receiving principle, also described as creating and preserving. The two complement one another in a perfection unknown to you human beings. Each is independent, but together they form “one flame before God’s throne.” Without duality there would be no creation, no growth, no uninterrupted evolution, because the cell that brings this about would not exist.

To express it directly and unmistakably: In heaven there is no same-sex duality! For an earthly incarnation, under certain circumstances this may be an option dependent solely on the decision of the individual, his past, and his learning task. If that is the case, it takes place within My all-embracing law, but it is not the norm; rather, it is conditioned by very personal, individual circumstances. Whoever concludes from this that such a union is willed by God—permitted, yes, if special circumstances require it—or even makes it a generally valid rule cannot appeal to My law.

The conclusion is not difficult to draw: Outside the purely spiritual realms such partnerships are indeed lived, but whether they stand before My eternally valid law you can now decide for yourselves in personal responsibility. You cannot expect a competent answer to the question of yes or no from your politicians.

That in this point as well they tend to submit to the spirit of the age should not surprise you. The spirit of the age, behind which My adversary and yours is active, continually tries in every sphere to introduce new thinking and new forms of behavior, which then—after a certain period of becoming accustomed to them—become generally accepted facts because by then they have become commonplace. Upon this the next distortion of My law, often scarcely perceptible, is then built, and it is approved by all those who—although they often call themselves Christians—are far removed from inner truth, from inner Christianity. And therefore also from insight, understanding, and wisdom. For a Christian—that is, a person who strives in his life to follow My example—takes his bearings from My commandments, from My teaching of love. This means that he does not maneuver hypocritically, does not lie, does not spin intrigues, does not enter into rotten compromises for his own advantage, and much more. A Christian—if he claims this designation for himself—fulfills My will, or at least strives to do so with all his strength.

Preserve your inner clarity. If you wish, examine your authorities and those who enact worldly laws and thereby make far-reaching decisions according to whether, in what they do and fail to do, they stand on the ground of My teaching. But do this only after you have first examined yourselves …! And refrain from demeaning others merely because they are not yet able to understand and follow My law better!

When in doubt—especially when your own conduct is at issue—ask yourselves how Jesus of Nazareth would have acted. You will certainly not always succeed in acting in the same way, but you will then at least have a standard by which you can orient yourselves. The more often you succeed, the more intimate our relationship will become. But the more clearly you will also recognize that true Christian life is not a Sunday stroll on which one meets only pleasant people and exchanges friendly greetings. Inner Christianity demands the whole person; it embraces and fundamentally changes him.

And it does not pay homage to the spirit of the age, but takes its bearings solely from the immutable laws of My all-embracing love.

I bless all My brothers and sisters, especially those who read these words of Mine, so that they may ponder them in their hearts and keep them there. Amen.
